How Lil Words works
A word-games and language-learning platform — start with today's Blitz.
🎯 The word game
Each round deals you 10 letters and 2 minutes: spell every word you can see. Start with Daily Blitz (one round). The Daily LetterHead adds nine rounds where you pick a scoring category each time — six scoring styles change which words matter most.
🟩 Word Guess
Six tries at one five-letter word, the same for every player that day. Green means right letter, right place; yellow means right letter, wrong place. We keep the five statistics you'd expect — games played, win rate, current streak, best streak, and how many guesses your wins take — and the share is the emoji grid with no letters in it, so nothing is spoiled. Solo mode gives you endless fresh words when you can't wait for tomorrow.
⚡ Daily Blitz
The quick daily habit: one shared board, 2 minutes, and a live meter showing how close you are to finding EVERY possible word. Your first attempt ranks on the day's leaderboard; the words you miss become study material.
🧙 Word Wizard
The same idea as Blitz with the clock taken away. One board, no time limit, and a score that answers a different question: not how many words in two minutes, but how much of this board can you actually clear. A live map shows how many words of each length exist and how many you have — so you know the 3s are done and the 7s are untouched. You're ranked on the percentage you found, which is the only honest way to rank an untimed hunt.

Every game has a board — Word Guess, Blitz, Word Wizard, Daily LetterHead, Ladder and the three puzzle games — across today, this week, this month and all-time, plus a friends-only scope. After each daily, a free account sees the top 3 and your own rank; Lil Words Learn or a 15-coin day pass opens the full standings. Share your score and come back tomorrow.
🎮 More ways to play
Solo posts your score online. Practice (Learn) plays fully offline with pause. Solo Blitz is the free offline board. Multiplayer is a relaxed turn-based match — play your round, your friend plays theirs whenever they like.
⚔️ Duels
Challenge one person to the exact same puzzle — Word Guess, Word Wizard, Crossword, Word Search, Word Fit or Ladder. It's a blind race: neither of you sees the other's result until you've both played, so nobody is watching a number they have to beat. Higher score wins, and the faster solve breaks a tie.
🧑🎤 Your Wordling
Everyone gets a little character that shows up on Home, on the end-of-round screen, and beside your name in multiplayer. Thirteen gear slots — hair, outfit, hat, shoes, glasses, backpiece, glow, a companion pet and more — plus creature skins that turn it into a cat, a robot or a dragon. Everything is earned with coins from playing (never with an advantage attached), or claimed from the free season track. It has moods: proud of your streak, sleepy at bedtime, excited when you land a big round. Give it a dance, pin the stickers you've earned onto the figure, and share the card with friends.
📖 Learning built in
With Lil Words Learn, the English words you miss become flashcards with their meanings. Boards come in English, French, Spanish, Russian, Czech and Greek — open them from a language page or the Ladder, Word Search, Crossword and Word Fit language row, no account needed. Words join your collection, come back for review at the right moment, and feed your streak, XP, and level.
🕹️ Practice games
The words you missed feed three mini-games: Scramble (spell it), Match the meaning (pick the word for a definition), and Echo (hear it, type it). Mastering words retires them from your study pool — and counts toward daily quests.
🪙 Quests, coins & the shop
Three shared quests every day, achievements for milestones, and coins earned from your XP as you learn — every 10 XP becomes a coin. Spend them on your Wordling's gear (sorted by rarity, grouped into sets that pay a bonus when you complete one), on tile themes, and on garden decor. Coins never buy an advantage, and they can never be cashed out.
📦 Community packs
Build your own themed word pack and share it. A moderator reviews every pack before it goes public, creators pick which mini-game plays it best, and you earn coins whenever another player studies your pack.
🌱 For young readers
Sprout Mode 🌱 makes Practice and Solo Blitz gentle for early readers: easy-word boards, relaxed timers, and every word read aloud. Pick a reading level — Starting (three-letter words), Growing (up to four) or Confident (the whole early-reader list) — and the boards follow. Word Builder 🧱 teaches spelling by ear, letter by letter; reviews start in Spell It, which grades itself.
👨👩👧 For families
The Family page is the grown-up's cockpit: create kid accounts, approve online play, set daily play limits, lock Sprout Mode, send word packs with a note, set goals with rewards, approve friend requests, see each child's garden, streaks, and week — and get an optional weekly email digest. Add a co-parent or grandparent as a guardian so the whole family can see progress.
